Plot Summary

The South Korean action noir series 'Bloodhounds,' based on a webtoon, follows the story of two exceptionally promising young boxers, Kim Geon-woo (Woo Do-hwan) and Hong Woo-jin (Lee Sang-yi), who form a deep and unlikely bond in the ring. Geon-woo, a sincere and considerate former Marine, dreams of using his boxing prowess to provide a better life for his single mother. Woo-jin, also a former Marine, is a charismatic and troubled delinquent who finds a shared sense of discipline and camaraderie with Geon-woo. Their lives take a brutal turn when Geon-woo's mother falls prey to a ruthless and notorious illegal loan shark organization known as Smile Capital, led by the formidable and merciless Kim Myeong-gil (Park Sung-woong). Myeong-gil operates above the law, using brutal violence and intimidation to collect on his debts. Desperate to protect his mother and seek justice, Geon-woo is forced to enter the murky, violent underworld of loan sharking. He and Woo-jin reluctantly accept the help of Choi Tae-ho (Huh Joon-ho), a legendary, yet benevolent, figure from the private loan industry who now provides interest-free loans to people in need of medical treatment, driven by a personal history with Myeong-gil. The three men, bound by their shared military background and a need to fight for the innocent, embark on a dangerous mission to systematically dismantle Smile Capital. Their journey is a constant battle against Myeong-gil's formidable army of enforcers, forcing them to navigate the moral ambiguities of revenge and vigilantism. As they face increasingly lethal confrontations, Geon-woo and Woo-jin must rely on their boxing skills, resilience, and their steadfast friendship to survive and expose the syndicate's deep-rooted corruption, ultimately discovering the high personal cost of seeking freedom and justice in a world dominated by greed and violence.
